WIPO-China Summer School opens in Shanghai

The 2023 WIPO-China Summer School on Intellectual Property opened on July 3 at the Changning Campus of the East China University of Political Science and Law, or ECUPL – located in the Changning district of East China's Shanghai.

Liu Hua, director of the WIPO Office in China, told the opening ceremony that this year marked the 50th anniversary of cooperation between China and the World Intellectual Property Organization – and praised Shanghai for its high international standards and continuous improvement in IP protection.

Rui Wenbiao, director general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, thanked WIPO and the China National Intellectual Property Administration for their strong support.

He noted that Shanghai was the first city to host the WIPO-China Summer School program and the joint master's degree program in IP.

Guo Weilu, Party secretary of ECUPL, welcomed the guests and the trainees. He expressed his hope that they would benefit from the IP research and practice, as well as enjoy the city of Shanghai.

Wang Qian, professor of ECUPL and the representative of the teaching faculty of the summer school, said that the program provided a platform for participants from different countries to learn and communicate with each other.

The summer school program attracted 116 participants from 14 countries. It will have courses on cutting-edge issues about IP, as well as a research project that includes field visits to IP judicial institutions and outstanding IP enterprises.
