East China's Shanghai is committed to boosting its intellectual property protection and creating a world-class business environment, municipal officials told a news conference on June 20.

In recent years, the city has made several improvements to its IP systems, covering such aspects as institutions, protection, operations, services and overall cooperation.

To foster institutional innovation, Shanghai has enacted local laws and policies to protect IP rights legally and support high-quality economic development.

It has also facilitated the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, by signing a framework agreement on higher quality IP cooperation in the area.

To strengthen the overall protection system, Shanghai has coordinated administrative and judicial efforts, set up IP protection centers for key industries and provided guidance and assistance for overseas IP disputes.

To encourage the effective use of IP rights, the city has implemented special plans for patent transformations and open licensing, offered financial support for IP pledge financing and established service stations for science and technology stock market-listed companies and trademark brand innovation bases.

To optimize its supply of services, Shanghai has integrated service windows and platforms for IP rights and developed an information service platform for IP-related matters.

Furthermore, to deepen open cooperation, Shanghai has cooperated with the World Intellectual Property Organization on various projects – such as holding the annual Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum, as well as setting up the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center Shanghai Service.

Most recently, the city has drafted an implementation plan to strengthen integrated innovation in the IP field. It's also optimized its business environment, aiming to set a high standard for China.
