The main event of the 2023 Shanghai Intellectual Property Publicity Week was held in the Huangpu district of the city in East China on April 25.

It marked the 23rd World Intellectual Property Day and had as its theme  "Strengthening the Legal Protection of Intellectual Property and Powerfully Supporting Comprehensive Innovation".

Furthermore, the event released the 2022 Shanghai Intellectual Property White Paper and the Shanghai Intellectual Property Development Report (2022), which showcased the achievements and progress of IP development in the city.

According to the reports, last year Shanghai made every effort to improve the quality, protection effects, utilization benefits, management ability and service levels for IP.

Shanghai's ranking in the Global Science & Technology Clusters of the Global Innovation Index 2022, released by the World Intellectual Property Organization, rose from eighth in 2021 to sixth last year – merging with Suzhou city in Jiangsu province as the same cluster.

The event also witnessed the launch ceremony of Shanghai IP public services stationed in government service centers.

In order to create a market-oriented, rule-of-law and international first-class business environment, the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration has actively promoted the placing of IP public services in district-level government service centers. At present, 16 districts have established on-site IP services.

During National IP Publicity Week on April 20-26, Shanghai launched a total of 230 activities at both municipal and district levels, which is said to have created a strong atmosphere for Shanghai to accelerate its development as an international IP protection hub.
