The East China University of Political Science and Law, or ECUPL, held a founding ceremony for the new School of Foreign Affairs and Law on Nov 12 in East China's Shanghai city.

Over 50 representatives from departments of the Shanghai Municipal Government and important international organizations attended the meeting.

Ye Qing, president of the university, hosted the ceremony. Rui Wenbiao, director-general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, or SIPA, also participated and gave a speech.

Rui said that foreign affairs and the law constituted an important part of China's development as a country under the rule of law – and a basic guarantee for safeguarding national sovereignty, security and interests.

He stressed that the establishment of the school was another important measure to actively respond to the development and changes of the world and to fully serve the country's development of foreign affairs and law and the cultivation of foreign affairs and legal talent.

He added that SIPA would make greater efforts to support the university in the cultivation of professional intellectual property talent and would continue to prioritize IP so as to promote the city's innovative development.
