Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration director general Rui Wenbiao received a delegation from the East China University of Political Science and Law, or ECUPL – led by its Party secretary Guo Weilu – in the city of Shanghai in East China on Oct 17.

The SIPA side talked with the university delegates about joining forces to train foreign-focused intellectual property, or IP, legal specialists.

At the meeting, Rui Wenbiao fully affirmed the achievements made by ECUPL in terms of intellectual property rights or IPR talent training, developing IPR academic disciplines and in international cooperation and exchanges.

He said that his administration would further support universities in building platforms and creating environments for cultivating professional, international and comprehensive IP talent.

Guo Weilu introduced the idea of jointly training foreign-focused IP legal talent. He believed that China urgently needs a large number of such people – with qualities including international vision, national sentiment, familiarity with international laws and the ability to participate in international IP affairs with the courage to promote the reform of the global governance system.

Currently, the university is vigorously embarking on the construction of a foreign-related legal talent training base, Guo added.

The two sides are planning to develop fundamental, applied and countermeasures research. They will push to establish the rule of law – concerning the development of foreign affairs disciplines – as the innovation growth point. They will also strive to transform academic results into foreign-related IP law practices and achievements.
