The 2022 WIPO-China Summer School on Intellectual Property opened at the East China University of Political Science and Law in Shanghai city in East China on Sept 13, under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization, or WIPO.

At the opening ceremony, Liu Hua, director of the WIPO office in China, delivered a speech via video. Yu Chen, deputy director general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration and Guo Weilu, Party secretary of the East China University of Political Science and Law, attended the on-site ceremony and delivered speeches.

According to Liu, the WIPO summer school is dedicated to intellectual property or IP education, training and skills building in member countries, particularly in developing countries, less developed countries and countries in transition.

She said that China's outstanding achievements in economic and social development, as well as its broad prospects in innovation and creation, had attracted the attention of the international community.

WIPO would continue to provide timely, quality and targeted services to all stakeholders, students and young practitioners, Liu added.

Yu Chen said that the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration had focused on the cultivation and introduction of professional and international IP talent in recent years. The WIPO summer school being held in the East China University of Political Science and Law was an important outcome of Shanghai and WIPO's cooperation.

Guo Weilu said that WIPO has been working with the East China University of Political Science and Law to organize the IP summer school there six times. He said the university would deepen its cooperation with WIPO and continue to enhance its academic influence in the IP disciplines.

The summer school will run for two weeks, teaching in English, both on-site and online. More than 120 students from China, Russia, India, Iran, South Korea, Brazil, South Africa and other countries have signed up for the program.
