Shanghai city in East China on Feb 16 announced its top 10 examples of intellectual property pledge financing or IP pledge financing in 2021, with an awards ceremony held to celebrate their achievements.

The list was co-released by SIPA or the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, the People's Bank of China Shanghai branch, the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission Shanghai Office and the Shanghai Municipal Financial Regulatory Bureau.

SIPA Deputy Director General Yang Hui told the ceremony that the 10 cases summarized best practice in the city's IP pledge financing sector.

Yang said the announcement of the top examples in Shanghai for the first time marks a new starting point for the city's IP financial work. He said it would help with the establishment of a first-class IP city and the development of Shanghai as an international financial center.

They include a new mode for patent licensing revenue rights pledge financing, pioneered by the Bank of Shanghai. There is also Shanghai Rural Commercial Bank's geographical indications pledge to empower rural revitalization and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Shanghai Branch's ratings and credit model for science and technology enterprises. 

Plans are for SIPA to work with municipal departments to further deepen the innovation of IP financial service alliances. Work will also be undertaken to improve the IP value realization mechanism for investments, insurance, pledges and securitization, Yang added.
