The China National Intellectual Property Administration, or CNIPA and the Shanghai municipal government held a consultative meeting in Shanghai city in East China on Oct 19. 

At the meeting, Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng and Shen Changyu, commissioner of the CNIPA, signed a protocol for cooperation and consultation – to jointly transform Shanghai into a high-level reform and opening-up city with IP as a key driver.

Gong told the meeting that the two sides would speed up their efforts to make Shanghai the "first choice" for international IP dispute settlements and a preeminent place for realizing global intellectual values. 

Shen said the CNIPA would partner up with Shanghai to build a high-quality model of IP development, by leveraging the city's special qualities and properties, providing strong support for building a modern country in an all-round way.

The CNIPA and Shanghai previously signed three rounds of cooperation protocols and they reportedly had led to a series of important results.

This time, the two sides would further deepen their cooperation to build a pilot zone for IP reform and innovation, a leading zone for high-quality IP development, an international IP protection highland – as well as a gateway zone for IP opening up and cooperation.
