Shanghai broadens links with WIPO

The Shanghai Municipal Government and the World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO – held a video conference on Sept 28 with Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng and Daren Tang, the director-general of WIPO participating.

Gong Zheng gave a presentation on Shanghai's developments in the IP sector in recent years and expressed his vision for further deepening its work with WIPO to turn the city – located in East China – into an international IP highland.

Meanwhile, WIPO chief Daren Tang praised Shanghai's support for the establishment and development of the World Intellectual Property Organization Arbitration and Mediation Shanghai Service and said that the organization would continue to broaden its links with the city.

Tang said that WIPO wanted to further engage with Shanghai to promote the use of WIPO's global IP service system, so as to bring more Chinese technology, products and designs to the world.

According to the Global Innovation Index 2021 – released by WIPO recently – Shanghai ranks eighth worldwide in terms of top science and technology clusters.
