The main event for this year's Shanghai Intellectual Property Publicity Week was held on April 23 in the Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone – located in Shanghai city in East China.

Chen Qun, vice-mayor of Shanghai, attended the event and gave a keynote speech. Rui Wenbiao, director general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, presided over the occasion.

Chen pointed out that Shanghai had always attached great importance to the protection of intellectual property, or IP. In the face of the new requirements in the new era, the city needed to further improve its institutions and innovate mechanisms, to accelerate the establishment of an international IP protection highland.

He also said the city would support the Lin-gang Special Area as the pilot zone and test field for innovative IP measures.

During the event, a mutual fund for IP rights protection in Lin-gang was set up.

The fund, the first of its kind in Shanghai, was initiated by top businesses and industrial parks – operating in the fields of artificial intelligence, biological medicines, aerospace, marine engineering equipment and other key industries – resident in the special area.

It is expected to provide members with a full range of IP protection assistance services.

The municipal IP administration issued regulations at the event on the construction and management of the China (Shanghai) IP protection assistance workstation and handed out licenses to eight workstations, including one in Yangtze Software Park in the Baoshan district.
