In the first two months of the current year, the number of patents granted in Shanghai city in East China hit 21,811 to maintain steady growth, according to data recently released by the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration.

Of these, the number of invention patents totaled 4,125, while 524 were PCT patents – the Patent Cooperation Treaty is the Geneva-based World Intellectual Property Organization's system of registering international patents.

By the end of February, the total number of valid invention patents in Shanghai was 148,900, while the number of invention patents per 10,000 people had reached 61.32.
