With spring approaching, now is the perfect time to take a stroll around the mountains, bamboo woods, fields and stunning architecture in Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort in Songjiang district.

Here are some of the amazing sights and fun activities you can see and do in this slice of rural China just a stone’s throw from central Shanghai.

Be an adventurer and scale Tianma Mountain, the largest and tallest mountain in the area. Tianma literally means "Heavenly Horse"—the mountain got this unusual name because locals think the mountain looks like a flying horse. As you climb the mountain, which is also known locally as Gan Mountain, you’ll find luxuriant plants and many historic temples like Huzhu Pagoda and the Light of Buddha, which still draw a lot of worshipers today.
