The world's two hottest peppers will set your taste buds on fire at Chenshan Botanical Garden, on Oct 16.

A contest for spicy food lovers will kick off at 10 am this Sunday morning in the tourist hall near Gate 1 of the botanical garden.

As the highlight of the 2016 Chenshan autumn-themed flower and fruit show, two types of pepper introduced to Chenshan this year, both Guinness World Record holders for their spicy flavor, will serve as spices for the contest.

The Northeast Indian Bhut jolokia, or "ghost chili", certified by Guinness World Records in 2006 as the hottest commercial pepper, and its record holding successor, Australian Trinidad Scorpion Butch T pepper, will be the masochistic delights added to pizzas in the first round of the contest.

The winners will have the chance to take on the challenge of eating raw peppers, and the finalists will take home a bonus gift.

Visitors can also brush up on their knowledge of peppers through information provided by the botanic garden staff, including what makes peppers piquant, and what is the best way to relieve the discomfort in the mouth after consuming spicy food.

Chenshan Botanic Garden has introduced some 100 types of peppers from various countries this year, including Cuba's Havana pepper, Mexico's Anaheim peppers and Italian cayenne pepper.
