Basketball fans crammed into Shanghai Happy Valley on Aug 6 as former NBA superstar cousins Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady spent a day of their vacation in China at the famous amusement park.

Upon being introduced to the mass of fans, who were understandably excited about being in the presence of two basketball legends, the towering Americans replied with a wave and a nonchalant "hi everybody".

Shortly thereafter, lights dimmed and the audience took in the multimedia show Lake of Illusions, a magical performance of poetic storytelling that merges water, fireworks, music, lasers, and 3-D technology to create a jaw-dropping spectacle.

Carter and T-mac, much to the adulation of their fans, then came on stage to take some shots and show off a little one-on-one freestyle basketball. They seemed extremely relaxed and took time in between shots to photograph themselves - using a selfie stick- and throw signed basketballs into the crowd.

The 39-year-old Vince Carter is an eight-time NBA All-Star, an Olympic champion, and considered one of the greatest slam-dunkers in the history of the sport. His cousin, Tracy McGrady, has already retired from basketball and is remembered as a seven-time NBA All-Star.

Lake of Illusions ends with the pronouncement that all dreams can become reality, which seemed fitting on an evening when thousands of fans lived to see their sporting idols in the flesh.
