The annual summer carnival of the Sheshan National Tourism Resort of Shanghai Happy Valley will formally open on the weekend.

One of the highlights is the global premiere of the large scale multimedia water show Tianmushuiji produced by the Shanghai OCT group.

The large-scale live water show is designed and directed by the French company ECA2 and took two years to prepare.

The viewing area at the nearly 30,000-square-meter central lake where the show is being staged can accommodate an audience of 1,500, who have 360 degree panoramic views around the lake. During the daytime, a musical fountain at the central lake as a acts as a prelude to the evening show, which presents a sensory feast combining water, fire, light and shadow.

With the "heaven and earth, and sword of eternity" of Chinese mythology as the theme, the water show features water curtains and fountains, music, full-color lasers, 3D-laser imaging, fireworks and other latest multimedia technology, to blend ancient stories with science and technology, and produce a spectacular sensory experience for audiences.

The creative planning, technique of expression, highly ornamental effects and music of the show represent the state of the art for large multimedia water shows, according to industry insiders.

Besides that, the 4D Hollywood movie San Andreas will also be screened at Happy Valley. With powerful computer-generated images of the effects of a giant earthquake, watching the movie in 4D promises to be a thrilling experience for viewers.

Over 60 performances, featuring more than 100 Chinese and foreign actors, will also be performed each day during the summer carnival.

During the daytime, a series of performances and interactions with tourists, such as the hot sambas, an ocean bubble show, and magic shows will be presented at Happy Valley.

And at night, there will be parades with a number of specially designed theme floats to establish a true carnival atmosphere.

One sweet highlight of this year's summer carnival promises to be the roller coaster wedding ceremony on Chinese Valentines' Day, which falls on August 9.

This will be just one of a series of romantic actives that will allow young couples to celebrate their love.
