Chenshan Botanical Garden has prepared a themed event to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival on June 9, which is set to take families on a floral adventure.

At 10 am on the day, a science lecture will be held in the conference room of the building at the garden's No.1 gate, introducing Hydrangea macrophylla, a long-leaved member of the Hydrangea family, native to Japan.

The plant is a deciduous shrub which features large heads of pink or blue flowers in summer and autumn. Its blooms are often colored blue, red, pink, light purple, or dark purple.

All families will receive a fan decorated with a lucky clover at the garden entrance. A plant seeking activity will also be held, giving families the chance to search for Althaea rosa, Acorus calamus, reed and Artemisia argyi around the garden in order to win unique prizes.

The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Duanwu Festival, is a traditional holiday originating in China which takes place on the fifth day of the fifth month of the traditional lunar calendar. People in China eat zongzi (glutinous rice dumplings filled with meat or egg yolk), drink realgar wine and race dragon boats to celebrate the festival.
