The Playa Maya Water Park at Shanghai's Sheshan National Tourist Resort won the "2016 China's Most Popular Water Park" award at the Ferris Awards, held in Beijing on March 14.
The awards, dubbed the "Oscars of the Chinese amusement industry", honored the park, developed by Shanghai OCT Enterprise Company, which has yielded more than 100 million yuan ($15 million) in revenue for three consecutive years since opening in 2013.
Over the years, Shanghai OCT has continuously upgraded the offerings at the park. In 2015, it optimized its shading and slip-resistant system, as well as its underwater landscaping, adding an interactive show and a kissing contest that have been well received by visitors.
In 2016, the water park will start a new round of rapid development bringing in the latest entertainment rides from abroad to provide thrills and fun for all ages. A new theme hotel is also under construction.
