Sheshan welcomes 140,000 visitors during New Year's Day Holiday

During the New Year's Day Holiday, the Sheshan National Tourist Resort brought in more than 140,000 visitors and a total of 16.64 million yuan ($2.54 million) in tourism income.

The scenic spots saw 136,000 visitors and made 5.87 million yuan in ticket income during the holiday, up 65.7 percent and 95.5 percent from the 2015 holiday. Resort hotels received 4,700 tourists and 10.77 million yuan ($1.64 million). On Jan 1, 2016, the occupancy rate of hotel rooms reached 85.45 percent.

The four 4A-level scenic spots in Sheshan National Tourist Resort all made a good start in the new year.

Shanghai Happy Valley launched various theme activities including a theme house adventure, a party carnival and a romantic mart, attracting 26,200 visitors, up 27.2 percent, with a 4.14 million yuan ($0.63 million) ticket income, up 47.9 percent from 2015.

The Chenshan Botanical Garden launched a French interactive stage production "Minuscule - Valley of the Lost Ants" at its tropical plant green house. Nearly 10,000 visitors came to enjoy the show, a 47.1 percent increase compared with 2015. The garden's ticket income reached 515,100 yuan, a double increase from last year.

The Sheshan National Forest Park hosted a climbing activity with the theme "Body Relax & Healthy Run" on the New Year's Day, 2016, to celebrate its 10th anniversary as well as promote both a healthy lifestyle and the district's tourism brand. The event attracted 5,000 participants. During the three-day holiday, the park saw a total of 89,700 visitors, up 65.2 percent from 2015.
