May Day in Sheshan sees prosperous tourist market

The fine weather over the May Day holiday made it a great time for traveling. It is estimated that Sheshan National Tourist Resort received over 273,000 tourists and 14.21 million yuan ($2.28 million) in ticket revenue.

The free expressway policy attracted many tourists from outside Shanghai city, especially from the Yangtze River Delta area. During the holiday, 144,000 tourists went to the Sheshan National Forest Park, which was 77.15 percent higher than the usual number. Shanghai Happy Valley, where special music events were held, received 71,800 tourists, 18.68 percent more than usual.

The Yuehu Sculpture Park held a photo exhibition and a patriotism educational exhibition, and its tourist numbers grew by 73.08 percent to 2,600. Chenshan Botanical Garden, where Chinese herbaceous peonies were blooming and an aromatic plants exhibition was held, attracted 52,700 tourists, many of whom came in families.

The middle-to-high-end hotels in the area, including Le Meridian Sheshan Shanghai, the Sofitel Shanghai Sheshan Oriental, the Sheshan Forest Hotel, and the Lan Sun Mountain Villa were almost all fully booked for the first two days of the holiday.
