March is the time when everything comes to life again. On March 23, fifteen students from the international department of Shanghai Middle School came to Chenshan Botanical Garden for the "Grow a Piece of Green" public welfare activity.

The theme of this activity was "to protect the environment and grow plants". The students firstly enjoyed a lecture on the importance of environmental conservation and tips for growing trees. They then came to the Eastern-China zone to plant Chinese yews with help from Garden staff. The students were given clear tasks to do, and their efficient cooperation made the work quite easy. Finally, each student present received a commemorative certificate as in thanks for their contribution, and a student representative then handed over 2,000 yuan ($322.05) which they had raised to help fund the garden.

The cooperation between Chenshan Botanical Garden and local schools is an innovative move to promote the dissemination of science. This dynamic way to arouse students' interest in environmental conservation is both popular and dynamic.
