1947

The Yangquan city government led by the Communist Party of China (CPC) was founded on May 4, becoming the first municipal administration to be established by the CPC.

1954-55

On June 26-30, 1954, the first session of the first Yangquan Municipal People's Congress was held in Yangquan city.

On Jan 7-13, 1955, the first Yangquan Municipal Congress of the Communist Party of China was held.

On May 4-11, 1955, the first session of the first Yangquan Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference was held.

1953-57

Yangquan was included in the 15 key coal mine construction mining areas during the First Five-Year Plan period (1953-57).

1970-76

The number of companies and organizations in Yangquan that participated in the promotion of the electronics industry and light industry increased to 109, while the variety number of products increased to 741.

1974

In October, the former Ministry of Culture held the Shanghai, Yangquan, and Lyuda (now Dalian) Workers' Painting Exhibition at the National Art Museum of China, leading to an upsurge in the study of painting by workers from these regions. Some 57 artworks produced by 30 workers from Yangquan were selected for the exhibition.

2003

A comprehensive conservation project for the urban section of the Taohe River was completed on July 18.

2015

Liu Cixin, a Chinese sci-fi novelist from Yangquan city, won the Hugo Award for Best Novel in August. The Hugo Award is widely considered as the premier award internationally in science fiction.

2016

Three major water conservation projects – the Niangziguan Water Supply Phase II Project, Urban Drinking Water Quality Improvement Project and the Municipal Sewage Treatment Phase II Project – started operating. These aimed to resolve water supply problems at the time restricting urban development.

2020

The Yangquan North-Yangquan East section of the Yangquan-Dazhai Railway opened to traffic in September.

Yangquan city was recognized as a national demonstration base for the new fiber materials industry, by the China National Textile & Apparel Council and China Chemical Fibers Association.
