Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, has established a team of qualified general practitioners that are among the best in the province, according to Taiyuan health commission on Nov 23.

Since 2004, the city has trained a total of 1,630 general practitioners, and has achieved its goal of having two or three qualified general practitioners for every 10,000 residents in urban and rural areas by 2020.

In recent years, Taiyuan has continuously improved training for general practitioners.

Through targeted general practitioner training and position transfer training, a large number of qualified general practitioners have been trained to take part in general medicine or general practice teaching at primary medical institutions and provide continuous, coordinated and accessible basic medical and health services for the masses.

As a result, Taiyuan has greatly improved its primary medical and public health service capabilities.
