The Taiyuan Liberation Memorial Hall is located in Niutuozhai in Dongshan Mountain in Taiyuan, which was a main battlefield for liberating Taiyuan. Niutuozhai is steep and has long been known as Taiyuan's gateway. In the battle to liberate Taiyuan, the PLA conquered the four forts of Dongshan Mountain including Niutuozhai.

To recall the revolutionary martyrs, the Taiyuan government built a cemetery in Niutuozhai in 1959 and now it and the memorial hall are a living classroom for revolutionary and patriotic education.
