Shanxi advances digital transformation of healthcare service
Updated: 2026-01-12
Since the launch of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), Shanxi province has been at the forefront of healthcare transformation, addressing critical patient care challenges through digital innovation. By implementing electronic health cards and a cloud-based medical imaging platform, the province is streamlining healthcare services to enhance patient experience.
Currently, 345 hospitals across Shanxi have achieved imaging data interoperability, while all secondary and higher-level hospitals have adopted mutual recognition of test and examination results. This significantly reduces patient wait times, lowers medical costs, and enhances overall satisfaction and well-being.
The electronic health card system is now fully integrated across hospitals under the provincial health commission. It seamlessly connects with 57 high-frequency medical service scenarios – including registration, payment, medication collection, and report inquiries – achieving "one card for comprehensive medical care".
The "Jinyi Assistant" system enables doctors to quickly access comprehensive health records of patients referred across cities, eliminating the need for repetitive patient history recounting and providing robust data support for accurate diagnoses.
Shanxi's commitment to mutual recognition of medical results involves 385 medical institutions and covers 320 examination and 120 test items across regions. To date, this system has benefited approximately 1.18 million people, effectively preventing redundant tests and saving both time and healthcare costs.
From "data-based healthcare" to "one card access", Shanxi is breaking down barriers to convenient, high-quality healthcare through digital transformation.
