Shanxi works to promote premium specialty agriculture

Shanxi province has advanced its strategy to develop premium specialty agriculture over the past few years, yielding impressive results with distinctive specialty products gaining nationwide popularity.

Shanxi has established five national specialty industry clusters, nine national modern agricultural industrial parks, and 27 national agricultural towns, cultivating 11 provincial-level agricultural specialty towns that feature products such as Pingyao beef, Qingxu aged vinegar, and Shangdang traditional Chinese medicine.

The province has established a matrix of "leading enterprises + cooperatives + family farms + small-scale farms", enhancing social service levels and integrating small-scale farms into modern agriculture. The province now boasts 3,210 leading enterprises above the county level, including 48 national-level companies, as well as 28 enterprises reporting revenues exceeding 1 billion yuan ($141.44 million), with two surpassing 10 billion yuan.

Shanxi has developed the regional public brand "Organic Dryland Farming: Shanxi Products", featuring 179 entries in the national directory of renowned, special, and new products, and 176 registered geographical indication agricultural products, and is also promoting its agricultural products both online through e-commerce partnerships and offline in key consumer cities, boosting the influence of its agricultural brands.

The province has also implemented a rural leisure tourism boutique project to promote the integration of primary, secondary, and tertiary industries. Eight counties have been recognized as national key leisure agriculture counties, 72 villages as China's beautiful leisure villages, and 35 routes as national boutique rural routes.
