In this year's government work report, significant emphasis was placed on enhancing social welfare and improving governance efficiency. In response, deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) from Shanxi province unanimously agreed to transform the "people-first" concept into tangible actions, continuously enhancing people's happiness and security.

"Shanxi places great importance on urban and rural elderly care services. This year, we aim to actively address population aging issues and improve elderly care services," said Ma Jinlian, an NPC deputy and village committee director of Xiaocheng village, Liulin county.

Reflecting on rural elderly care, Ma suggested increasing investment in the sector to ensure basic service funding. She also recommended policies to attract talents in elderly care, advocating for partnerships with vocational schools to train rural healthcare professionals.

Li Hui, an NPC deputy and teacher at Beiguan Primary School in Yicheng county with 26 years of education experience, highlighted concerns over rising obesity rates and myopia among Chinese youth, which indicate an alarming trend in their physical health.

Li proposed that relevant laws and regulations should mandate at least two hours of comprehensive physical activities daily for primary and secondary school students nationwide, clarifying the responsibilities of schools, parents, and society.

"Promoting the coordinated development and governance of medical services, insurance, and pharmaceuticals is a key focus of this year's government work report," noted Yang Xiaojing, an NPC deputy and deputy director of the Intensive Care Unit at Shanxi Bethune Hospital.

Yang suggested advancing medical education and research integration, enhancing mechanisms and funding for translating research into practice, and establishing platforms for industry-academia-research collaboration.
