In recent years, North China's Shanxi province has been dedicated to developing sports centered around the people. This aims to enhance public health, empower economic development, support societal progress, and contribute to the national goal of building a strong sporting nation.

According to the latest survey, Shanxi boasts 121,364 sports venues, covering an area of approximately 91.9 million square meters, with an average of 2.65 sq m of sports space per person. The proportion of residents regularly participating in physical exercise has reached 38.5 percent, and over 91 percent of urban and rural residents meet the National Physical Fitness Measurement Standards.

Shanxi has conducted diverse fitness activities, including the Taiyuan Marathon and the China Jinzhong International Roliball Competition. This year, 739 sports events were held across 816 communities in the province, with the sports department alone organizing over 6,000 public fitness events annually.

Shanxi is committed to making public sports facilities accessible by offering free or low-cost access. This year, 119 public sports venues have adopted this model, with plans to increase this to 156 next year.

Based on policy and resource advantages, Shanxi has hosted high-level international and domestic sports events, including the World Taekwondo Grand Prix and the World Table Tennis Professional League Regular Challenge (Taiyuan Station). The province is also creating its own branded events and aims to establish a three-tier event system at the provincial, municipal, and county levels.

Moving forward, Shanxi will focus on building a higher-level public fitness service system, preparing for the 15th National Games, expanding and upgrading sports consumption, and contributing toward a strong sporting nation.
