Shanxi accelerates building distinctive new energy system
Updated: 2024-12-24
In recent years, North China's Shanxi province has aimed to construct a new energy system that balances secure and stable supply with green and low-carbon transformation to provide robust energy support for its high-quality economic development and comprehensive transformation.
The province has been actively promoting energy conservation and efficiency. In the first three years of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), energy intensity decreased by 10.9 percent, leading the nation by achieving 73.7 percent of the plan and 116 percent based on new assessment criteria.
Efforts have been made to develop advanced production capacity across the province to enhance supply capabilities and resilience. With 244 intelligent coal mines established, Shanxi has pioneered intelligent construction standards and has taken the nationwide lead in this sector.
Shanxi also prioritizes innovation-driven development, advancing the transformation and upgrading of traditional energy industries. In collaboration with Tsinghua University, the Shanxi Research Institute for Clean Energy has been established, and four key coalbed gas innovation platforms have been built.
Continuing to enhance its energy transformation, Shanxi hosted the Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum and organized six Global Top 500 New Energy Enterprises Summits. It has evolved into a premier international dialogue, technology showcase, and cooperation platform in the low-carbon energy sector.
Furthermore, Shanxi has promoted energy companies' participation in the Belt and Road Initiative for international cooperation. For example, Jinneng Holding Group exports photovoltaic components and coal machinery to countries like India, Pakistan, and Singapore. The province also works to strengthen inter-provincial energy cooperation, with agreements signed with 23 provinces and cities for long-term electricity cooperation.
