The "Ideals and Glory: Exhibition of Ancient Greek and Roman Sculpture Art" kicked off its pre-exhibition on Dec 19 at the Shanxi Museum in Taiyuan, North China's Shanxi province.
Experts and scholars from institutions such as the National Museums Liverpool in the United Kingdom, the Fine Arts Federation of New York, China's Capital Museum, Nanjing Museum, and Suzhou Museum, along with 300 attendees, stepped into the exhibition hall to experience the charm of ancient Greek and Roman sculptures.
The ancient Greek and Roman exhibition, which will officially open on January 1, marks Shanxi Museum's opening exhibition of 2025 and represents the first stop of its tour in China.
The exhibition includes 134 precious sculptures and artworks from Ancient Greece to the Roman period, including exquisite artifacts like the statue of the Greek god Zeus, the Zeus-Ammon head relief, and the punishment sarcophagus of Prometheus. Each piece carries profound cultural and historical significance and showcases the brilliant achievements of Western civilization.
The Shanxi Museum also hosted an international academic symposium themed "Curatorial Practices of Ancient Greek and Roman Sculpture Art" on the day, where experts and scholars discussed curatorial concepts, narrative constructions, cultural dissemination at home and abroad, and inter-museum exhibition cooperation models.
