Shanxi strives to build satisfactory transportation
Updated: 2024-12-13
In recent years, North China's Shanxi province has strived to construct itself a strong transportation province and build satisfactory transportation for its people.
This year, the province expanded investments, enhanced the infrastructure network, and elevated the quality of transportation services, comprehensively driving the transformation and upgrading of its transportation industry.
From January to November, the province completed 57 billion yuan ($7.83 billion) in fixed-asset transportation investments, achieving 95 percent of its annual target of 60 billion yuan.
With a focus on connectivity and expansion, Shanxi's total expressway mileage is set to exceed 6,400 kilometers, with over 700 km of new mileage added in the first four years of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25).
In rural areas, Shanxi now has hardened road coverage connecting villages, accessible bus services, and express deliveries. The proportion of towns connected by third-level or higher roads and the proportion of larger natural villages with hardened roads have both surpassed 99 percent.
This year, Shanxi connected 13,000 km of the Yellow River, Great Wall, and Taihang No 1 tourism highways, establishing the country's first comprehensive road network connecting cities, rural areas, and scenery.
By 2025, Shanxi will continue to focus on constructing seven expressways and 19 ongoing projects to expand and renovate ordinary national and provincial roads. The Licheng-Huozhou Expressway, Xiyang-Yuci Expressway, and a new eastward exit to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Expressway will be completed.
