In recent years, North China's Shanxi province has made unprecedented strides in advancing its education sector through a series of strategic plans and institutional arrangements. These efforts have laid a solid foundation for the province to become an educational powerhouse.

The gross enrollment rate for preschool education in Shanxi has reached 96 percent, surpassing the national average by 5 percentage points. The net enrollment rate for school-age children in compulsory education remains above 99.8 percent, also higher than the national average.

The gross enrollment rate for high school education exceeds 96 percent, 4 percentage points above the national average. Higher education in the province has entered a stage of widespread development, with over 1 million students enrolled, significantly improving overall education coverage.

Shanxi also supports each county in establishing and enhancing a high-quality public high school through university trusteeships and model high school assistance programs. These schools are becoming key players in urbanization efforts centered around counties and towns.

Shanxi has achieved comprehensive coverage of undergraduate and vocational colleges across its 11 prefecture-level cities. Taiyuan University of Technology and Shanxi University have been included in the "Double First-Class" initiative. Three disciplines are recognized as national A-level, and 32 disciplines are ranked in the top 1 percent globally by ESI.

Furthermore, Shanxi has introduced a series of fundamental and leading reforms in basic, vocational, and higher education, effectively ensuring the steady and long-term development of its education sector.

Shanxi's education system will continue to integrate education, technology, and talent development. Projects to enhance the quality of higher education, foster innovation in universities, and improve vocational education will be implemented to achieve new breakthroughs in supporting Shanxi's high-quality development.
