The Shanxi-Taiwan Agricultural Cooperation and Exchange Meeting was held in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, on Aug 29.
Over 200 participants, including experts, scholars, modern agricultural demonstration zones, and leading agricultural enterprises in Shanxi and Taiwan, attended the conference.
Hao Xianmin, deputy secretary-general of the Shanxi Provincial Government, emphasized the strong complementarity and promising cooperation prospects between Shanxi and Taiwan in the realm of agriculture. Shanxi has introduced a series of preferential policies to support Taiwan businesspeople and enterprises in participating in the province's rural development.
Taiwan has accumulated rich experience in refined agriculture, agricultural technology, agricultural product processing, and agricultural management. Shanxi, on the other hand, possesses a long history of agricultural civilization along with unique resources.
There are a wide range of cooperative opportunities for the two sides to capitalize on in agricultural product processing, rural healthcare and wellness, and attracting investment in agricultural projects.
In terms of agricultural product processing, Shanxi has a wide variety of grain crops with high yields. The annual output of its small grain crops remains stable at over 3.4 billion kilograms.
Shanxi is also a major producer of fresh and dried fruits. It ranks among the top five provinces in China in the production of apples, pears, jujubes, and walnuts. The province breeds high-quality grass-fed livestock, and its dairy product output puts it among the top 10 provinces nationwide. It is also one of the major regions in China for authentic medicinal herbs, home to 1,788 species of Chinese medicinal resources.
Regarding the rural healthcare and wellness industries, Taiwan has excelled in the development of homestays. Shanxi, with its unique climate, natural landscapes, historical culture, folk customs, and ancient towns and villages, possesses outstanding resources for rural healthcare and wellness, providing vast prospects for this industry.
In terms of agricultural investment attraction, Shanxi has 14 modern agricultural demonstration zones. These zones have complete infrastructure and preferential investment policies, making them suitable for Taiwan enterprises and investors interested in agricultural ventures in Shanxi.
The exchange meeting will further expand agricultural cooperation and exchanges between Shanxi and Taiwan, attracting more Taiwan businesses to invest in Shanxi and promoting the development of agriculture in the province.
