Shanxi farmers brave the heat to cultivate crops

Despite the scorching heat, farmers in Xinjiang county of Yuncheng, Shanxi province, are busy preparing for the harvest season.

Xinjiang county is known as the "granary of south Shanxi". At Yongfengzhuang village of Gujiao town, vegetable farmer Zhang Meilan and her fellow residents are celebrating a bountiful harvest of Chinese onions.

Also, in Gujiao's Beiwangma village, farmers are spraying insecticides and herbicides in their cornfields.

In Donglintuo village of Sanquan town, farmers are working diligently to eliminate weeds and pests in fields of traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. The herbs hold significant economic importance for the region.
