Shanxi athlete claims gold at Chengdu FISU World University Games

China secured the first gold medal in the diving event at the 31st FISU Summer World University Games in Chengdu.
In the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard diving final on July 31, Liang Zhaohui from North China's Shanxi province and his teammate Huang Bowen clinched the gold medal with a total score of 397.35.
The two young men maintained a leading advantage throughout the competition after the first two dives. Despite slight setbacks in the third and fourth dives, the duo stayed composed under pressure and delivered an outstanding fifth dive, scoring 79.80 points and reclaiming the top spot.
"There were some mistakes during the competition. I will strive to perform better in the individual event," said Liang in a post-match interview, expressing his hope to showcase his perfect movements in the men's 3-meter springboard event.
Born in 2001, Liang is a native of Yangquan city in Shanxi. At the age of 10, he became a member of the Shanxi diving team. Presently, he is studying sports training at Shanxi University. At the 2023 National Diving Championships, he finished fifth in the men's 3-meter springboard and seventh in the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard.
