A torch for the second Youth Games of China is due to be lit at the Xihoudu ruins in Ruicheng county, Yuncheng city, according to a press release from Shanxi Sport Bureau on March 4.

The archaeological site of Xihoudu, the oldest known Paleolithic site in China, is home to the earliest recorded use of fire by Homo erectus in China, around 1.8 million years ago.

The lighting of the torch will be streamed online with a large audience expected to watch.
