On Aug 29, the Pudong Urban Planning and Public Art Center hosted the second Shanghai Science & Technology 35 Under 35 (S&T 35 Under 35) awards ceremony, during which 35 winners and 15 nominees were honored.
The winners were invited to receive their honors from four Chinese Academy of Sciences academicians as well as certain local government representatives, and vice-director of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee's Organization Department.
Cao Yuanfeng, addressed the opening ceremony. Participants included some of the first S&T 35 under 35 winners as well as representatives from the Shanghai Young Science and Technology Talents Association, and the Shanghai Science & Technology Development Foundation. In addition, the ceremony was streamed live to a large audience of tech employees and enthusiasts.
Han Bin, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, shared his sci-tech research experience at the event, and vividly explained the spirit of persistence, focus and continuous improvement. He encouraged the young scientists to work with a global vision and sense of teamwork, carry forward the spirit of "Two Bombs, One Satellite" ("Two Bombs" refers to the atomic bomb and the intercontinental ballistic missile, while "One Satellite" refers to the artificial satellite), and contribute to the country's future.
The ceremony also highlighted the keynote speeches of the young scientist representative Li Shu, a researcher at the Tsung-Dao Lee Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the entrepreneur representative Li Jianguo, founder and CEO of Shanghai Bangbang Robotics Co.
"As young sci-tech workers in the new era, we shall stay true to the original aspirations, boost passion and courage in science and technology, and strive to accomplish our dreams," Li Shu said.
Li Jianguo noted that different application scenarios feature different demands and the ultimate demand of his company is to help users return to their normal lives. Bangbang is specialized in integrating the informatics, rehabilitation science and engineering into people's daily life. It is committed to creating a better lifestyle for the handicapped people with the use of technology.
The "Shanghai S&T 35 Under 35" award selects 35 final winners and 15 nominated winners annually, based on four strategic dimensions, namely World Science and Technology Frontier, Main Economic Development, Important National Demands, and Life and Health. It aims to explore a more effective mechanism for evaluating and selecting young science and technology talents, so as to train the young talents with a global vision and an innovative influence.
The ceremony was guided by the Shanghai Talents Office, the CPC Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Committee, the Shanghai Committee of Chinese Communist Youth League (CCYL) and the Shanghai Youth Federation. It was hosted by the Shanghai Young Science and Technology Talents Association, organized by the Pudong Industry Alliance of Youth Science and Technology, and supported by the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Committee of CCYL and the Pudong New Area Committee of CCYL.
