The establishment of the Jinqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone was approved by the State Council in September of 1990. With an area of 27.38 square kilometers, the whole zone is divided into two areas of differing functions.

The zone was Shanghai's first and China's third ISO14000 certified State-level demonstration area, and also Shanghai's first successfully constructed national demonstration zone for ecological industries.

Prioritizing the advanced manufacturing industry, the development zone strives as an industrial cluster for introducing leading projects. A manufacturing base encompassing four industries, including digital information, auto parts, household appliances and biomedicine, has been formed in the zone.

Based on its strong manufacturing foundation, the development zone makes efforts to transform and upgrade the industrial structure, and has been gaining momentum in recent years.

Having gathered more than 50 headquarters and over 100 research and development centers, the zone excels in production services, including research and development, commerce and trade, service outsourcing and headquarters economy.

This well-equipped zone has built an international community with infrastructures in education, sports, entertainment and medical care. The community has accommodated more than 2000 foreign families.
