International air passengers leaving Shanghai can now apply for tax refunds on an intelligent self-service terminal, which helps verify their applications in a real-time manner.
According to Shanghai Customs, passengers who purchase goods at tax-free stores within the departure area of Terminal 2 at Shanghai Pudong International Airport can apply for a tax refund through the Intelligent Self-Service Declaration Terminal.
Customs officers will remotely verify the tax refund application, shopping invoices and personal ID submitted by passengers in real time.
With the new system, overseas travelers can complete tax refund procedures without leaving the departure area. In the past, passengers had to make a round trip between the departure area and the exit declaration counter to complete the tax refund procedures.
