The 20th China Digital Entertainment Expo and Conference, or ChinaJoy 2023, took place at the Shanghai New International Expo Center from July 28 to 31.

The 20th edition of the event was themed "20 years of companionship, more joy more wonder", and featured meta-universe applications, 5G, cloud gaming, AI, and VR/AR/XR entertainment content and products.

The BTOC exhibition area had nine exhibition halls spanning more than 100,000 square meters. Over 200 digital entertainment companies from China and abroad attended the event. Among them were domestic companies like Tencent Games, NetEase Games, and Mihoyo, and internationally renowned companies like Qualcomm, Sony, and DeNA.

This year's ChinaJoy saw the inclusion of a new area that displayed applications related to artificial intelligence, 5G, Web 3.0, meta-universe, digital human, and blockchain.

The first "game empowerment" exhibition also made its debut at the ChinaJoy 2023 BTOC exhibition area, promoting the innovative integration of the gaming industry with cultural heritage and social welfare.

For example, social game company Happy Elements has collaborated with the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and the Shanghai Natural History Museum to launch a public welfare science popularization activity featuring popular games like Anipop.

According to a report on China's game industry released at ChinaJoy 2023, the scale of China's game users has reached 668 million, an increase of 0.35 percent year-on-year, a historic high.
