Zhengda Plaza in Pudong New Area, Shanghai has launched a wide range of colorful activities to celebrate the upcoming Spring Festival and stimulate consumption during the holiday.

Lion dance, which is among one of the many traditional Chinese folk festivities celebrated during the Chinese New Year, is held across the country. The lion dance is listed as one of the national intangible cultural heritages. The dance is comprised of bright colors and loud noises, and is an ancient Chinese ritual to scare away evil spirits as well as bless businesses and homes.

A special lion dance is being staged at Zhengda Plaza that integrates modern hip hop with the traditional lion dance in hopes of attracting many young people to in inherit and enjoy the charms of traditional Chinese culture.

Visitors also have a chance to admire flower blossoms and buy flowers at the Chinese New Year flower market at Zhengda Plaza. A slew of flower-related activities such as flower arranging are being staged with an aim to add a more festive atmosphere for visitors and residents.

A splendid gala focusing on guochao, also known as the rise of homegrown brands, will be presented at the plaza from Jan 31 to Feb 6, which is intended to help promote domestic brands and products among young people, and offer visitors a close-up encounter with fine traditional Chinese culture.

Opened to the public in 2002, Zhengda Plaza has explored innovative ways to make it a beacon for shopping in Pudong, and has made great efforts to help Pudong build itself into an international consumption center. The plaza's manager Xu Wei said that it will introduce new forms of entertainment to meet the diversified needs of young consumers.
