After taking the special elevator for vaccination to the 11th floor and signing several forms, a worker from Australia received his first shot of a COVID-19 vaccine at Shanghai East Hospital in Pudong New Area on April 6.
Shanghai started the appointment-based COVID-19 vaccination for appropriately aged foreigners in the city on March 29.
Expats willing to take on the risk can make an appointment through the Jiankang Yun (Health Cloud) app. Each person will get two doses of a domestically-developed vaccine.
Those who are covered by the country's medical insurance will be entitled to the same treatment as insured Chinese citizens, while those who are not will pay 100 yuan ($15) per dose.
As one of three designated vaccination sites for expats in Pudong, Shanghai East Hospital has reserved an elevator and a venue on the 11th floor specifically for vaccinations.
Volunteers who can speak English are also available to answer medical questions from expats.
