Shanghai Ocean University signed an agreement with Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China on Feb 2, to co-establish a research center for the protection of eco-system of Yangtze River and its surrounding environment.

The center aims to serve the needs of national strategy regarding the building of a clean environment. In order to advance the research, the center will try to invite more experts and cooperate with universities and research institutes.

The two sides of the agreement will work together to conduct research and seek to provide training programs for more students.

Wu Jiamin, secretary of the party committee of Shanghai Ocean University, said that the cooperation is meaningful for the university since it will push forward the research of the university, such as ocean ecology, fishery industry, public management, sociology and law related to the ocean and put the theory into practice.

On the other hand, the establishment of the cooperative relation will benefit the Ministry of Agriculture, as Shanghai Ocean University will provide more consultation for Ministry of Agriculture in areas of oceanology in order for them to make better solutions or policies.

The new research center is a global, open, diverse, multidisciplinary platform and endeavors to put research products into real use.

In the future, it will set up more cooperation programs with universities, experts and governments in order to protect the ocean's eco-system.
