The 2023 Haiyang Green Energy Development Meeting kicked off in Huangbohai New Area in Yantai of Shandong province on Aug 30.
During the event, experts, scholars and industry leaders discussed about new development paths for the clean energy industry and application scenarios for energy development and utilization.
Liu Haibin, Party secretary of Haiyang, a county-level city in Yantai, spoke about the Dingzi Bay Dual Carbon Intelligent Valley, an industrial base with geographical advantages, resource endowments and a firm development foundation. He also introduced Haiyang's characteristic industrial clusters of clean energy, aerospace and new materials.
Long Yongtu, former secretary-general of the Boao Forum for Asia, said at the meeting that Yantai, a key driving force in the conversion of old and new growth drivers in Shandong, has always been committed to building a world-class smart and low-carbon city as well as a demonstration zone for the province's green, low-carbon and high-quality development.
As of the end of the first half of this year, Haiyang, which is a critical player in helping Yantai achieve its dual carbon target, had a total installed capacity of 5.13 million kilowatts of clean energy, including nuclear and wind power, accounting for 6.12 percent and 43.4 percent of the total in Shandong and Yantai respectively.
In 2022, Haiyang generated 24.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity - about 20 percent of the clean energy generation in Shandong. Haiyang is also a pioneer in zero-carbon heating within China.
During the meeting, industry elites shared their insights into sectors like smart energy, low-carbon cities, new energy storage, and exchanged views on emerging areas such as nuclear energy, hydrogen energy, energy storage and smart agriculture.
Nine projects, including the National Advanced Energy Demonstration Zone and the Supporting Industrial Projects and Cooperation Agreement on the Demonstration Project for the Integration Development of Comprehensive Smart Energy and Modern Facility Agriculture, were also signed during the event.
The Dingzi Bay Dual Carbon Intelligent Valley is expected to have an installed capacity of 30 million kW and generate 170 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually.
