Yantai, a city in Shandong province, has been actively driving the transformation of its agricultural industry into a green and high-quality one.
The city's commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development is reflected in its efforts to integrate modern technology with traditional agriculture.
Take the city's apple plantation, one of its major agricultural businesses, for example. Lightweight and intelligent cultivation management technology systems have been adopted to reduce labor cost of the once labor-intensive sector. With the help of these systems, a farmer can not only easily manage a 50-mu (3.33-hectare) or 100-mu orchard, but also triple the yield of apples and reduce the environmental impact.
Yantai also considers the circular economy as a key to the green development of agriculture.
The city has 3,662 large-scale livestock and poultry farms. All these farms have been equipped with manure treatment and recycling facilities, which have not only greatly reduced the farms' environmental pollution, but also produced organic fertilizers for use in agriculture. By encouraging the use of these organic fertilizers, Yantai has effectively reduced the use of pesticide and chemical fertilizers and improved soil quality while recycling resources.
In addition, Yantai has been working to develop its marine resources. The city has been actively promoting the use of modern technology areas like deep-sea fishing and fish farming.
The city has also been working to reduce the environmental impact of fisheries by promoting the use of environmentally-friendly fishing methods and the recycling of fish waste.
