The 2023 Shandong Summer Consumption Season kicked off in the eastern coastal city of Yantai on June 20. Organized by China Media Group and the Shandong Provincial People's Government, the event is part of efforts to drive economic recovery and boost consumption.

The event will run till August and feature 10 major categories including automobiles, home appliances, retails and catering sectors, culture and sports.

A range of promotional activities will be held across the province during the summer season. Many of the activities, including bazaars and expos, will be livestreamed. Each city in the province will also offer discounts, vouchers and subsidies.

Major industry associations, trading companies, time-honored brands as well as banks have been invited to participate in the summer consumption season. Major scenic spots, amusement parks and cultural venues will also launch promotional activities to woo more visitors during the summer vacation.

Consumption plays a crucial role in bolstering economic development, and the Shandong Summer Consumption Season event is expected to stimulate consumers' purchasing appetite and promote the recovery of the economy, said local authorities.
