China's first 'collection-level' winery unveiled in Yantai
Updated : 2023-06-20
Chateau Tinlot, the first "collection-level" winery in China, was officially unveiled on June 16.
Located in Yantai, Shandong province, the winery is named after Robert Tinlot, former president of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) who visited Yantai in 1987.
The aim of the winery is to produce excellent wines that are considered collectibles.
Changyu, China's largest and oldest wine producer, was in 2012 given authorization by Tinlot to construct Chateau Tinlot.

Tinlot first visited Yantai as the president of the OIV in 1987. During the trip, he awarded the honorary title of "International Grape and Wine City" to Yantai and discovered the century-old Chinese wine company Changyu.
The Chinese Wine Research Institute of Flavor and Health Science and Innovation Platform was also unveiled at the opening of the chateau.
The research institute will focus on researching grape wine ingredients and flavors, nutrition and health, quality and safety to develop grape wines that better suit the taste and needs of Chinese consumers.
Due to Yantai's unique climate, the grape-growing seasons last longer and allow for a greater accumulation of aromatic compounds and phenolic substances, which results in higher quality grapes.
