Yantai, a coastal city in East China's Shandong province, plans to leverage its rich tourism and coastal resources to boost the nighttime economy and bolster post-pandemic prosperity, according to news released at a launch ceremony of the city's nighttime economy brand.
The prosperity of its nightlife economy is regarded as an important benchmark for its openness and vitality. The COVID-19 pandemic has seriously affected Yantai's culture and tourism sector over the past three years. With anti-pandemic measures being implemented, the local government has made the decision to promote business and consumption at night in a bid to capture opportunities after sundown.
Yantai plans to set up a batch of nighttime economy consumption clusters and build some characteristic landscapes, aiming to promote the integrated development of local culture and tourism sectors, as well as promote regional economic development.
According to the development plan, Yantai plans to launch several key consumption areas across the city such as Penglai district, which is home to charming coastal views, fresh seafood and rustic scenery, and Muping district, which has a long history and profound literary charm.
The city also plans to launch a series of nighttime-themed activities across the city in the following months, which are expected to offer visitors a chance to experience the city's history, innovation and progress, and help boost the local economy, according to local officials.
