Innovation continues to fuel Yantai's growth over past decade

The coastal city of Yantai in East China's Shandong province has been committed to driving high-quality development through scientific and technological innovation since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, according to a local news report.
Currently, the total number of Yantai's high-level talents has exceeded 1.9 million, and the city is now home to 300,000 high-skilled talents. The city is now home to 1,543 high-tech enterprises.
Over the past decade, Yantai has rolled out a slew of supportive measures to attract global talents by establishing a conducive environment for research and ensuring the availability of financial resources, and expand the city's talent pool.
Scientific and technological innovation has become a key driving force for economic growth in Yantai, with the city aiming to become a key innovation hub in Shandong. According to official data, a total of 96 projects from Yantai enterprises were selected for the province's first technology innovation plan, and three of them have reached advanced international levels.
In the first half of this year, seven enterprises in Yantai were placed on the provincial-level demonstration enterprise list for technological innovation, and 274 were selected as specialized and sophisticated small and medium-sized enterprises at the provincial level. Official data indicates that investment in high-tech industries in Yantai increased by 48.5 percent year-on-year.
