German executive in Qingdao: 27 years building bridges for China–Germany cooperation

Kerstin Kaehler, 53, has lived and worked in China for 27 years, including a decade in Qingdao West Coast New Area, where she leads the Qingdao German Enterprise Center. Her story reflects the deepening level of China–Germany cooperation and the growing role of international talent in the region's open economy.

Based in the Sino-German Ecopark, Kaehler manages a hub that provides office space and full-cycle services for foreign-invested enterprises, from investment consultation to daily operational support. Since 2016, the center has attracted over 100 companies from Germany, Japan, the United States and Singapore, spanning sectors such as semiconductors, advanced manufacturing and consulting.

Fluent in German, English and Chinese, she acts as a "bridge" between policy and practice, helping foreign firms understand China's regulatory environment while conveying business needs to local authorities. Her team also hosts regular "breakfast meetings" and thematic exchanges, including sessions on foreign investment policies and digital transformation.

Beyond business services, Kaehler promotes cultural integration by organizing Spring Festival activities each year and facilitating internship exchanges for German students in Qingdao enterprises.

Her long-term commitment reflects the West Coast New Area's efforts to enhance its international business environment and strengthen ties with global partners. She continues to position Qingdao as a preferred destination for German and European investors.
