In Shinan district, innovation in advanced materials is driving the growth of emerging industries.
At Qingdao Surface Energy Advanced Materials Technology Co Ltd, four production lines operate at full capacity producing electrospun nanofiber membranes. Composed of thousands of fibers, each one thinner than human hair, these membranes form ultra-thin films with high porosity and strong physical and chemical properties. Used in outdoor wear, they provide windproof, waterproof, lightweight, breathable, and insulating performance. "We are the first company in China to achieve stable, large-scale, low-cost production," said Lan Xia, deputy general manager of the company. With an annual output of six to ten million meters, the company plans to expand to 12 lines, which would boost output as high as 30 million meters per year.
At Baicao Future Health Technology (Qingdao) Co Ltd, a new generation of bio-functional materials is being developed. Active molecules from natural plants like mint, wormwood, and tea are embedded into textiles using patented molecular nest technology, creating materials with antibacterial, antiviral, and antioxidant properties. These materials offer cooling, moisture-absorbing, and heat-retaining effects. "We've partnered with over 400 brands and lead the industry in market share," said Chi Shan, a representative of Baicao company, noting the company helped create two national and two industry standards.
Shinan district is accelerating the green and high-quality development of emerging industries, with a focus on new materials.
